Serological tests: The virus neutralisation test and various enzyme-linked immunosorbent assays

چکیده

The disease is characterised by clinical signs of the upper respiratory tract, such as a (muco)purulent nasal discharge, hyperaemia of the muzzle (red nose disease) and by conjunctivitis. Signs of general illness are fever, depression, inappetence, abortions and reduced milk yield. The virus can also infect the genital tract and cause pustular vulvovaginitis and balanoposthitis. Postmortem examinations reveal rhinitis, laryngitis and tracheitis. Mortality is low, and most infections run a subclinical course. Secondary bacterial infections can lead to more severe respiratory disease, and BoHV-1 could play a role in multifactor diseases such as ‘shipping fever’.

Quality management in reference tests for the diagnosis of classical swine fever.

Inter-laboratory comparison tests for the diagnosis of classical swine fever (CSF) have been established by the national swine fever laboratories of European Union (EU) Member States. They provide a method of measuring both the quality of the results of diagnostic tests performed by laboratories and the competence with which they were performed. The objective is that all laboratories obtain the...

A High-Performance Multiplex Immunoassay for Serodiagnosis of Flavivirus-Associated Neurological Diseases in Horses

West Nile virus (WNV), Japanese encephalitis virus (JEV), and tick-borne encephalitis virus (TBEV) are flaviviruses responsible for severe neuroinvasive infections in humans and horses. The confirmation of flavivirus infections is mostly based on rapid serological tests such as enzyme-linked immunosorbent assays (ELISAs). These tests suffer from poor specificity, mainly due to antigenic cross-r...

Comparative evaluation of particle agglutination test for antibody to human immunodeficiency virus.

A comparative evaluation of a new serological test for human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) was carried out. The test used the agglutination of gelatin particles coated with HIV antigen. It was found to be more sensitive than current enzyme linked immunosorbent assays (ELISAs) and more specific than the western blot test. Because of its simplicity, it promises to be of value, especially in develo...

COVID-19; History, Taxonomy, and Diagnostic Molecular and Immunological Techniques

In recent years, viral epidemics such as the coronavirus disease (COVID-19) have spread, and this outbreak is thought to be the result of animal-to-human transmission. Hence, accurate diagnostic tests to detect COVID-19 and antiviral antibodies in infected individuals are of utmost importance. This report describes the structure, history, taxonomy, and molecular and immunological techniques for...

A subtype-specific peptide-based enzyme immunoassay for detection of antibodies to the G protein of human respiratory syncytial virus is more sensitive than routine serological tests.

Peptides deduced from the central conserved region (residues 158 to 189) of protein G of human respiratory syncytial virus (HRSV) subtypes A and B were used as antigens in subtype-specific enzyme-linked immunosorbent assays (G-peptide ELISAs). These G-peptide ELISAs were compared with seven other serological assays to detect HRSV infection: ELISAs based on complete protein G, on fusion protein ...
